Acupuncture in Windsor:
Find Natural Relief from Pain
Acupuncture is regularly performed at Cabana Chiropractic & Health Centre. Acupuncture in Windsor involves the insertion of very fine needles through the skin and tissues at specific points on the body. This non-painful treatment has been safely used for more than 3,000 years and can help treat any number of chronic and painful conditions.
Acupuncture aims to balance energy and blood in the body in order to keep it functional and healthy. By stimulating the body to produce its own pain-relieving chemicals, called "endorphins," pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain are blocked; thus relieving pain, promoting relaxation and restoring the body's own internal regulatory systems.

The Benefits of Acupuncture for Windsor, ON Patients
While we mentioned previously that acupuncture helps to release pain-blocking endorphins, acupuncture isn’t just about “feeling good;” acupuncture can actually be used to treat (not mask) many types of health conditions. And, unlike prescription drugs, acupuncture is non-addictive, and there is no downtime following your acupuncture treatment — you can simply go on about your day.
In applying acupuncture needles to some of the 361 identified acupoints along the major meridians of the body, acupuncture can be used to treat a whole host of conditions, including:
Addictions
Bone and nerve pain
Headaches
Sinusitis
Allergies
Constipation
High blood pressure
Weight loss
Asthma
Depression
Indigestion
...and much more
Acupuncture has been safely used for more than 3,000 years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Similar to many other health procedures, acupuncture in Windsor (and all of Ontario) is highly regulated and requires proper licensing in order to become a practitioner. In Ontario, becoming a licensed acupuncturist requires testing, registering with the College of Traditional Chinese Practitioners and Acupuncturists, as well as demonstrating the equivalent experience of treating more than 2,000 patients over the span of five years.
What Goes on in an Acupuncture Session?
Based upon your symptoms, as well as your preventative health and mobility goals, we will prescribe a treatment designed to reduce pain and alleviate your specific condition. But what you really want to know is whether acupuncture needles will hurt, right? Absolutely not. After all, we’re trying to ease pain, not cause more of it! In the hands of a trained practitioner, the only sensation you should feel when the acupuncture needles are inserted is a slight, radiating warmth (or tingling) in the areas being treated. But we understand the apprehension of those unfamiliar with acupuncture; many new patients associate acupuncture needles with injection needles used in doctors’ offices. Acupuncture needles are inserted at depths of only 4 - 25 millimetres, shallower than injection needles, and acupuncture needles are thinner than those used to inject medicines and vaccines.
One thing you might find of interest is that acupuncture needles are not always inserted in the region being treated. For instance, in treating an eye disorder, we may place a needle at a needling point in the lower leg, which may not make sense to many patients. But the example just mentioned was proven to be of sound medical science and published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine in 1992. In this laboratory-controlled study, applying an acupuncture needle in a patient’s lower leg “activated the occipital cortex of the brain, as detected by functional magnetic resonance imaging.”
